(Mis)Adventures in Porridge Land

It was bound to happen: they were eventually going to ask us to feed our little darling. Well, they didn’t exactly ask. They pointed. There just happened to be too many criers this morning, and too few hands for shoveling.

As they’re mommy-centric, Jane was handed the spoon. Then a big bowl of porridge and a cup of tomato soup were pushed between mother and daughter.

Mother timidly began to feed. She made nice, neat little spoonfuls for her daughter. She tipped the spoon to help the cereal slide down the very little mouth and throat before her. It should be mentioned that this isn’t the orthodox method. We’ve watched the feeding process and have marveled at how closely it replicates a good grouting job. Pour the cement on the surface and then trowl away the excess. Then repeat. Repeatedly.

Mom didn’t follow protocol.

Dad took photos to document.

What happened surprised them both. The very well-behaved Jem became a little breakfast monster! She started banging on the little tray before her, then plunged her hand into the cereal bowl and started waving it all over, flinging porridge onto herself, like a fine Jackson Pollack painting.

Steve asked if he should take over. Seemed like a good idea.

He got one spoonful into her mouth before the usual caregiver ousted him from the feeding seat and took over the grout and trowling process.

Minutes later she happily was presented to us—all cleaned up with somewhere to go.

Very typical feeding process - you will get more quick at cathing the bowl each time.

There's nothing like feeding your little one for the first time in front of the caregivers!
